Broe Tabernacle Therapeutic Choir

Broe Tabernacle Therapeutic Choir is comprised of a unique group of men and women all recovering from Traumatic Brain Injuries. Since October 1998, the group has given over 30 Free Performances at Schools, Hospitals, Rehabilitation Centers and Private Functions.

  • Performances can include, if desired, an Educational Presentation about Traumatic Brain Injury, Rehabilitation, Drinking and Driving, Sports Concussions and Prevention. The group has produced 3 CD's, 2 TV Video's and been written about in 25 newspaper articles and 5 nationally and globally professional journals.

City of Farmington Hills Special Services Department Cultrual Arts Division

The Cultural Arts Division offers a wide variety of cultural activities, services and support to the cultural organizations of the greater Farmington area. The Divison presents a professional concert series featuring performers such as the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings and the Chenille Sisters; "Stars in the Park" free summer concerts; "Art on the Grand", a fine arts festival in July; and classes and workshops for all ages. The Division is also responsible for continuous art exhibits in both the Farmington Hills and Farmington City Halls and the City Gallery. Working closely with community arts groups, the Cultural Arts Division produces a quarterly calendar of cultural events in the surrounding area, as well as providing support for the Festival of the Arts in the spring and the Multicultural Heritage Festival in the fall. The Cultural Arts Division is located in the Costick Center on Eleven Mile Road, just east of Middlebelt.

Daughters of Peace Middle Eastern Dance Ensemble (Benat al Salaam)

Our mission is to offer programs suited for all ages, which emphasize the positive aspects of Middle Eastern culture through its rich, enchanting dances. We seek to bridge cultural and ethnic boundaries by exhibiting the costumes, music and movement of the entire Mid-East region.

Several of our members are also teachers and offer classes on a weekly or private basis. The Daughters of Peace is a 501c(3) non-profit corporation.

Detroit Ballet

The Detroit Ballet provides the finest in classical dance and contemporary dance stressing traditional techniques and a repertoire including Swan Lake, the Nutcracker, and works by Balanchine. We are dedicated to the development of Michigan artists, and artists in the Farmington area, and to presenting quality ballet.

Embroiderers' Guild of America, Farmington Hills Chapter

The Embroiderers' Guild of America is a non-profit educational organization founded in 1959. Our mission is to foster high standards of design, color and workmanship to embroidery, to teach embroidery arts, and to preserve our national needle arts heritage.

The Guild serves over 20,000 members through a network of more than 300 chapters which are grouped together into 13 geographical regions.We conduct local meetings, workshops and seminars and are usually limited to crafts done with a needle with an eye.

The Farmington Hills Chapter holds their meetings on the 1st Wednesday of each month at Faith Covenant Church, located on Drake Road and 14-mile Road. All meetings are open and you are welcome to come or write to us for more information.

Farmington Area Arts Commission

The Farmington Area Arts Commission (FAAC) supports the Cities in their commitment to ensure arts, culture and creativity are an integral component of daily life in our community. The FAAC encourages and supports the Cities' many artists, community organizations and educational efforts through its Artist in Residence program and its connection and advisory role with the Cultural Arts Division of the Special Services Department. Farmington Art Foundation (Formerly: Farmington Artists Club)

The Farmington Art Foundation formerly (Farmington Artists Club) was organized to stimulate active interest in the creative arts in its members and the community.

It operates exclusively for educational and social purposes, offering lectures, workshops, demonstrations, slide presentations, and exhibits with emphasis on the creative arts, and supports other community activities that emphasize the creative arts.

Farmington Commmunity Band

The Farmington Community Band, founded in 1966 as the Farmington Civic Band, has grown from the initial six-member group to encompass today's eighty-member Concert Band, a twenty-piece Jazz Band, Clarinet Choir, Dixieland Band, Flute Ensemble, and several other small ensembles. The FCB is a non-profit organization sponsored by individual, business, and corporate patronage as well as grants from corporations such as Target. Additional support is provided by the Farmington Hills Special Services, Cultural Arts Division.

FCB's rehearsals are held Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Harrison High School music suite. Membership is open to all adults. Qualified high school students may audition.

Farmington Community Chorus

The Farmington Community Chorus was established in 1980 under the sponsorship of the Farmington Hills Parks and Recreation Department as an activity for community residents. Currently, the Chorus numbers about 80 people from all over the metropolitan area. We have been performing Holiday and Spring Concerts ever since. The chorus meets each Tuesday evening at the William Costick Activity Center, 28600 W. 11 Mile Road (east of Middlebelt Road), 7:30-9:30, while school is in session.

The requirements for membership are simple: a love of singing and the ability to pass a simple audition. One does not have to read music or have had any formal training in voice. Auditions are held twice a year at the beginning of September and January. January 12 and 19, 2010 at 7:30 pm—auditions will be held at the Costick Center—28600 W. 11 Mile Road.

Farmington Community Library

The Library's mission is to provide resources to facilitate informal self-educational, civic and cultural activities, to encourage constructive use of leisure time and to meet the information needs of all individuals, organizations and businesses in our community.

As a community arts/cultural organization, the Library offers free access to books, audio, video and digital recordings of music, spoken word and film. The Library sponsors programs to promote an enjoyment of the arts, literature and humanities for individuals of all ages, as well as offering a wide variety of original art by area artists as part of the building's fabric.

Library Programs include story hours, puppet shows, theatre for children, Book Discussion Groups, poetry readings, and more.

The Library also sponsors the annual Battle of the Books competition and creative writing contests for young adults. The Library serves as a meeting place for many local organizations and welcomes collaborations and partnerships with community agencies and organizations.

Farmington Garden Club

Established in 1932, the FGC has a longstanding tradition of educating its members and other groups and individuals on a variety of horticultural subjects. Our 40+ members meet monthly (except January, July and August) on the first Monday of each month at the Spicer House in Heritage Park off Farmington Road.

FGC is an active group that sponsors fund raisers for different horticultural projects, brings in expert speakers on a variety of subjects, and provides members with a bi-monthly newsletter. Meetings are both social and educational. New members and guests are always welcome. .

Farmington Hills Historical Commission

The Historical Commission collects, arranges and preserves historical material indicative of the lives, customs, dress and resources of the early residents of the Farmington area and publishes source material and historical studies relative to the history of the state, including materials furnished by educational institutions and the Michigan Historical Commission.

Farmington Hills Department of Special Services

The Special Services Department evolved from the Farmington Area Recreation Commission, established in 1948, to the Parks and Recreation Department in 1978 and finally to the Department of Special Services in 1985. The department consists of eight divisions including Administration, Senior Adults, Youth and Families, Recreation, Cultural Arts, Parks & Golf, Activities Center and the Ice Arena.

Our residents enjoy hundreds of cultural and recreational programs for all ages, over 600 acres of public parks, an Ice Arena, swimming pool, Senior Center, gymnasium and superb facilities for meetings and banquets. Make a selection above to learn more.

The Farmington Musicale is a Senior Club of the National Federation of Music Clubs. Farmington Public Schools: Fine Arts

The Farmington Public Schools offer students a variety of experiences in the Fine Arts. All elementary school students receive specialized instruction in art and general music. Choir experiences usually begin in the fourth grade. Instrumental music classes begin in fifth grade.

At middle school, opportunites in theater are added to art, general, instrumental and vocal music. Dance classes and Dance Company are added at the high school in addition to art, instrumental and vocal music and theater. Numerous performance opportunities for students include: local, Regional and state art exhibits; school concerts, local, regional, state and national music festivals as well as school and community theater.

An experience in the arts is part of the high school graduation requirement for all students.

The Hill and Dale Garden Club of Farmington, Michigan is a member of the Michigan Garden Clubs, Inc. under district 1. Our club resides under the Central Region of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. Founded in 1957 and federated one year later, our mission statement is: "to endeavor to broaden the knowledge of gardening; to stimulate interest in horticulture, conservation, Garden Therapy activities and to present concepts in the art of flower arranging.

Michigan Weavers Guild

The Michigan Weavers Guild (MWG) is dedicated to encouraging excellence, inspiring creativity, and preserving fiber traditions by providing forums for the education of handweavers, handspinners, basketmakers, and fiber artists in related disciplines.

Established in 1947, MWG is now in its 63rd year.

North Farmington Garden Club (On Facebook)

Our purpose is to educate interested persons on all phases of horticulture. We emphasize the preparation of soil, planting, caring for and pruning. Our philantrophic work is well known. We maintain the gardens at Dunckel Middle School and at the Farmington Community Library We also have classes in flower arranging and participate in local flower shows. We hold an annual Arts and Crafts Show.

We are a member of the Federated Garden Clubs of Michigan and the National Council of State Gardens Clubs, Inc.

Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at the Visitors Center at Heritage Park at 12:00 noon.

Oakland Community College

Oakland Community College offers a wealth of arts programs for an associates degree with directed experience in a variety of art media. Programs include painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry making, stained glass and printmaking. Many of OCC's faculty members in Fine Arts have earned local, national and international acclaim.

The Orchard Ridge campus focuses on ceramics as art, a focus shaped by Robert Piepenburg, known for his ceramic creations using raku.

Ridgewriters

Ridgewriters is a community of writers that meets weekly for the purpose of critiquing our works in progress, networking, and learning about marketing.

Founded by Betty Monson and named after the Orchard Ridge campus of Oakland Community College, Ridgewriters began in 1976. The group contains professional and amateur writers who represent a variety of genres including poetry, science fiction, historical fiction, devotional, romance, spiritual, memoir, travel, humor, songwriting, interior design, and book reviews. If you are a writer, and have an interest in improving your craft, please consider joining us.

Ridgewriters meets every Friday from 12 Noon to 2:00 pm at the Visitor Center in Heritage park, Farmington Hills. Heritage Park is located on Farmington Road between 10 and 11 Mile Roads.
